Maikel Kieftenbeld & Oli McBurnie transfers fall through

Derby County and Barnsley have failed to have deadline-day transfers ratified by the English Football League.Midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld’s move from Derby to Birmingham was announced after the 23:00 BST deadline on 31 August, as was striker Oli McBurnie’s loan move from Swansea to Barnsley. But the EFL has refused to authorise either of the transfers because of issues with paperwork.

Derby were unsuccessful in appealing the Kieftenbeld ruling.Premier League clubs vote to close transfer window before seasonRegarding Kieftenbeld, who has now returned to Birmingham, a Derby statement read: “We believe sufficient transfer documentation was completed before the deadline and appropriate supplemental forms followed a short while later, due to the player and agent being in different locations.”However, following clarification from the EFL, their view is that the full criteria was not met for the transfer to be accepted. Given the circumstances, we reluctantly accept the EFL’s adjudication.”A Barnsley statement said: “Oli showed a huge desire to come and play for Barnsley, which can only be admired and ultimately this decision will have the most impact on him.”Earlier this week, Fifa rejected Leicester City’s application to register midfielder Adrien Silva after the club missed the deadline by 14 seconds.Silva’s registration for the £22m move from Sporting Lisbon was not completed in time with football’s governing body, meaning the deal was not finalised.
