Mile Jedinak: Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce hopeful of short lay-off for midfielder

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is hopeful that midfielder Mile Jedinak will return to action before Christmas. The 33-year-old Australian, who has made only two starts this season, left the field with a shoulder injury in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Ipswich.Bruce told BBC WM: “He has seen a specialist and we have been advised to leave it alone and see where it is in the next week to 10 days.

“We hope that he doesn’t need the operation and that it repairs itself.”Jedinak joined Villa from Crystal Palace for £4m in August 2016 and has since made 40 appearances.”We thought it would be an operation but he has obviously damaged the joint and we will have to wait and let nature take its course,” said Bruce.”He should be back at Christmas but if it doesn’t go well and he needs an operation, then we are talking two to three months.”Villa have been struck by a number of long-term injuries, with striker Jonathan Kodjia unlikely to play again this season following angle surgery. and Scott Hogan sidelined with a stomach problem. Defender John Terry is out with a broken metatarsal in his right foot and midfielder Henri Lansbury has struggled with a knee injury, while Jack Grealish has recently recovered from a pre-season kidney injury, “We have not been dealt good luck in terms of injuries,” added Bruce. “We have been dealt a cruel blow but the squad, up to now, has coped with it which is very pleasing and let’s hope it continues. “
