UK Snooker Championship 2017: Mitchell Mann relishes 'much-needed win'

2017 UK ChampionshipDate: 28 Nov-10 Dec Venue: York BarbicanCoverage: Watch live across BBC Two, BBC Red Button, Connected TV, the BBC Sport website and mobile app from 2 December.World number 78 Mitchell Mann says reaching the second round of the UK Championship for a second-straight season takes the pressure off.The 25-year-old raced into a 4-0 lead in his 6-2 triumph against Stuart Carrington, clinching the victory with his fourth break of more than 50.He will win at least £5,000, even if he loses to Liang Wenbo in his next match.

“The pressure is slightly off now because you’ve got some ranking points and some money,” said Mann. “They are big-money matches, so there’s always that little bit of doubt in the back of your mind, even at 5-1 up.”Playing for £5,000 or nothing makes it a big game. Where I am in the rankings, it’s a much-needed win. I tend to think more about the ranking points rather than the money.”Birmingham cueman Mann reached the semi-finals of the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany in March, but has not gone beyond the second round at any other event so far this season. However, he feels his game could disrupt free-flowing Wenbo, the tournament’s 2015 runner up, in round two. “My tempo of play isn’t the best to watch and there’s not much rhythm in my play,” Mann added.”If it gets a bit bogged down, that’s probably more of an advantage for me than Liang.”He’s a great player, a tournament winner and it will be a tough match. But I’ve played Liang twice and won twice.”
